The Macquarie Native Garden has been completed! This small courtyard area had a very steep slope held by a rock wall. For our design, we imagined opening up the wall so that children can run, play, and interweave through the different levels more easily. The mounds slow the rainwater from rushing down towards the classrooms, and the dry creekbeds direct this water underground to feed nearby roots. We also reused the retaining wall rocks to create rock patterns and stepping stones. To revitalise the bare area, we have planted many native shrubs and grasses, and hope to see their growth over the next few years.
